Cortina d'Ampezzo

At 8:00 AM, the crisp mountain air greets us as we gear up for the climb. Trying on the climbing shoes, each step feels like a ritual bringing us closer to the iconic 5 Torri. With the guide by your side, you’re set for an experience that combines adrenaline, history, and nature.

5 Torri Chairlift

The 5 Torri Chairlift lifts you to an exhilarating 2,225 meters above sea level, landing you in one of the Dolomites’ most breathtaking viewpoints. From here, you’ll not only stand among the legendary rock formations of the 5 Torri but also take in sweeping, unforgettable views of iconic peaks like the Tofana range and Lagazuoi. It’s a place where adventure meets awe, surrounded by the unmatched beauty of these majestic mountains.

World War I trenches

Uncover the history of the 5 Torri trenches, an open-air museum of World War I at an altitude of 2,225 meters. Guided by a passionate local expert, we’ll explore the rock-carved trenches and tunnels created by the Italian army to observe and defend against Austro-Hungarian forces. Here, soldiers braved extreme conditions, using this elevated position to gain a strategic advantage over the valleys below. This journey is a powerful blend of history and nature in one of the most awe-inspiring and significant spots in the Dolomites.

Rock climbing

Our adventure continues with an unforgettable climb on the iconic 5 Torri, guided by a local expert who will provide all the necessary equipment and invaluable tips, making this experience perfect even for beginners. The 5 Torri is considered one of the birthplaces of Dolomite climbing: as early as the early 1900s, climbers began exploring these rock formations, which now offer routes of varying difficulty, ideal for both beginners and seasoned climbers. As we scale these towers, we’ll pass through historic World War I trenches, merging nature with history in a unique way, with stunning views of the Lagazuoi and Tofana ranges. This is not just a sport but a journey through the heart of the Dolomites, where adventure and history unite for an authentic, awe-inspiring experience.

Scoiattoli Hut

After a morning of exploration, we’ll stop for lunch at Scoiattoli Hut, a cozy mountain hut founded and managed by the historic Lorenzi family since the 1960s. Known for their warm hospitality and deep roots in mountaineering, the Lorenzi family welcomes guests with delicious local dishes like polenta, dumplings, and strudel for an authentic culinary experience. The hut is named after the “Scoiattoli di Cortina,” the legendary group of climbers who helped bring Dolomite climbing to international fame. Here, surrounded by incredible views of the 5 Torri, we’ll enjoy local cuisine in one of the Dolomites’ most iconic spots.

Lagazuoi Cable Car

After lunch, we’ll head to Mount Lagazuoi and take the cable car up to its summit. One of the highest cable cars in the Dolomites, the Lagazuoi Cable Car will lift us to an altitude of 2,752 meters, offering breathtaking panoramic views that stretch from the Tofane range all the way to the Austrian Alps. This is an unforgettable experience, letting you take in the full majesty of the Dolomites from above.

Lagazuoi Hut

After taking the cable car up, we’ll enjoy short walks around Lagazuoi Hut, surrounded by breathtaking views of the Dolomites, including the Tofane range and Marmolada. Built in the 1960s to provide shelter and rest for hikers, the hut is located near a network of World War I tunnels and trenches carved by Italian soldiers defending against Austro-Hungarian forces. Like at the 5 Torri, here too we’ll encounter historic remnants transformed into an open-air museum, sharing stories of life and battles fought at high altitudes.
